Experienced solar system installers on the Sunshine Coast are aware that most of the solar panels that are removed from a roof prior to a new installation are still usable and have a value. If you are on the Sunshine Coast and have old used solar panels for sale we pay cash and pick up.
Below is a guide indicating how much we pay for old used panels.
175W-230W – Good $10 Fair $5 Poor $0
235W-275W – Good $20 Fair $15 Poor $5
280W-330W – Good $30 Fair $25 Poor $15
335W-500W – Good $40 Fair $35 Poor $25
We also buy and take away used aluminium railing at $0.80c per metre.
The vast majority of these panels will end up in Africa and will find there way to a family who really appreciate it – so please do your best to identify which panels are working and which ones surely aren’t.
We buy any panels that are working if they have:
The photo’s below should help you decide which of your panels might be suitable for us to buy and pick up.
As a homeowner at some point you may need to get rid of your old used solar panels.
In most cases you will be working with an installer to rebuild your solar system. Often this is following a successful insurance claim for damage top the system. You will also be working with an installer if you are upgrading. Often the installer will organise disposal of the used solar panels that are removed prior to a new installation.
Sometimes your installer will take the panels away and may sell them to a company like Resolarcyle or they will go off for scrapping and recycling of materials. If it’s an insurance job you will probably be replacing the entire system which will also include the roof railings and inverter.
We will pick up and buy the PV solar panels, the aluminium railings and fastenings. Decommissioned inverters are generally not able to be reused for grid connected installations in Australia. We can take the old inverter away for you and dispose of it.
Second hand solar panels still have a life and can be reused providing they are still in reasonable condition. We will assess the condition of the panels and indicate whether they are reusable. See the photos above which indicate whether the panels are suitable for us to buy and pick up. Solar panels that are damaged or otherwise no longer suitable can be recycled. Solar panels should never be trashed as they can have a value even as scrap materials.
We buy solar panels that are unwanted in Australia which are then exported to countries where there is a high need. In Africa and Asia as many as 770 million people live without access to electricity. The panels that we collect from you are sent to countries like Nigeria where they provide energy for lights and electrical appliances and to help small businesses operate. This is your contribution to improving comfort and quality of life for families, helping children to read, learn and play and help small business thrive.
Early 2023 figures show that New South Wales had 31% of the national total of newly installed rooftop solar capacity. This is followed by Queensland at 27% and Victoria with 16%. Western Australia and South Australia had shares of 11% 9% respectively.
Rooftop solar is an expanding part of Australia’s energy production and is close to catching up to coal as Australia’s biggest generation source by capacity. At the end of the first quarter 2023 rooftop solar accounted for 19.8 GW of capacity compared to 23.3 GW for coal generation (following the closure of the Liddell Power Station in New South Wales).
Data from the Clean Energy Regulator (CER) indicates that the first quarter of 2023 62,000 rooftop installations added to the grid, with new capacity 520 MW.
There is a 12-month lag in reporting so final figures are expected to be closer to 92,000 new rooftop installations totalling 800 MW. The Photo Voltaic industry supports many households that recognise the benefits of solar power and are taking action to reduce their carbon footprint and energy costs.
The thoughtful disposal by homeowners and solar installers of old used solar panels via their purchase and export by Resolarcycle is an important part of completing the lifecycle of solar panels so they are not destroyed before it’s necessary. The panels we buy and ship overseas have a greatly extended life and help thousands of people improve their conditions.
Queensland led Australia in 2023 with 1,023 new installations that included batteries. The Queensland target for solar electricity production by 2030 is 50%. Queensland has a number of solar farms at the time of writing that are either operational (30+), approved (37+) or announced (24+). There is an estimated 17298 MW of solar capacity in the above categories.
It has been suggested that over one third of used solar panels in Queensland are fit for reuse however the figure is actually much higher than this. Of course major damage from impact (hail etc) or lightning, electrical shorting damage and water ingress renders old solar panels inoperable for continued use however despite age and minor visual flaws many panels that may seem unsuitable can actually be reused.
The Queensland government is expected to introduce a ban within 10 years on old used solar panels going to landfill so all the more reason to think of your old panels as a useful resource for those less fortunate than ourselves rather than simply rubbish.
Resolarcycle buys and collects thousands of old used solar panels across Queensland’s Sunshine Coast that are still viable. These are sent to Africa and Asia where they are put to reuse in improving the lives of children, families, and micro to small businesses.
